Our Solution
C-CORE applies advanced probabilistic methods to support Arctic ship design and operations through exposure-based decision-making. We help ship owners, designers, operators, and insurers assess how, when, and where vessels can safely operate in ice-covered waters. Our services include guidance on Polar Class selection for new builds, operational limit assessments for existing vessels, and risk evaluations within defined design envelopes.
These analyses are grounded in comprehensive environmental characterization and site-specific design basis development. We model sea ice and iceberg exposure, perform risk-informed assessments, and support clients in developing robust, cost-effective Arctic shipping strategies.
When appropriate, C-CORE also designs and executes field trials to collect real-world ship-ice interaction data. These trials involve instrumenting vessel hulls to capture unbiased ice pressure measurements, which are used to calibrate design standards – particularly those related to glacial ice impacts – and to refine Polar Class rule development.
Our integrated approach helps ensure Arctic shipping is not only feasible and safe but optimized to meet the complex demands of northern operations in a changing climate.
